Brentford is a town shaped by water, at the confluence of the River Thames, River Brent and the Grand Union Canal.

As a local resident I was delighted to be invited to design the identity and branding for its’ inaugural Brentford Canal Festival.

The identity was to designed capture the energy and vibrancy of a canal festival but also to reflect the industrial heritage of Brentford and the role of the waterways in that heritage.I created a logo around a custom built typeface, inspired by original cast iron lettering found on the lock signage in the gauging lock.

We extended the brand identity across all marketing and promotional collateral, including outdoor advertising, billboards, banners and posters, backed up with an extensive social media campaign across Facebook and Instagram.
The event has proved to be a huge success.
Now in its’ third year, the festival is attracting crowds of around 6000 people and has quickly become not just an important fixture in the local social calendar, but also a widely celebrated expression of local identity.
